Kalamazoo Kick Off Classic 2016

Relive the Senior competition with Heidi one of our correspondent who attend the event in Kalamazoo, Michigan (USA).

For most teams, Kalamazoo is the first competition of the season and is always so exciting. The stands were filled with anxious fans of different clubs waiting to see what each team had been training for several months now.

The skaters, in the locker rooms below the stands, were getting out all of their first competition nerves before stepping onto the competition stage. Each team that stepped out onto the ice looked very confident and well prepared.

Senior Short

The first Senior team out onto the ice was Crystallettes, who represent the Dearborn Figure Skating Club. This was the team’s second appearance on a competition stage for the 2016-2017 season. They previously competed at the New England Challenge Cup, receiving a score of 49,10 points. Crystallettes short program is skated to Somebody to Lean on. Their skate was filled with speed and emotion. It was a clean skate.

Technical score: 25.76 / Component score: 29.25

Adrian was the next and final senior team to skate in the division. This season, Adrian is skating their short program to Rise. They have also already competed their short program at the Diamond Classic Synchronized Skating Competition, receiving a score of 45.18. Adrian’s skate at Kalamazoo was clean filled with high energy.

Senior Free Skate

Adrian also competed their Free Skate at the Diamond Classic Synchronized Skating Competition, receiving a 90.57. Adrian came back, after a 10-point difference from first, fighting later in the afternoon for their Free Skate Program. This season Adrian is skating their long program to soundtracks from Evita. They were very engaging with the audience, strong and powerful. They had a clean skate

Technical score: 42.74 / Component score: 56.21

Kalamazoo was the first time the Crystallettes debuted their long program. This season they are skating to soundtracks from the Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Their program was filled with choreography and good skating skills.

Technical score: 39.05 / Component score: 54.81
