No doubt Team Paradise seems to be as strong as the last seasons. The Russian team, 2016 and 2017 senior world champion, won the Shanghai Trophy short program competition on Friday. The team skated to Muse’s «Exogenesis Symphony» for a total of 72.99 points (36.83 technical points). Starting with a pair position, the skaters presented a very clean and delicately short.
At the second provisional position, Marigold Ice Unity from Helsinki who skated their short program called «Under the Northern Star», a performance full of melancholy and emotions that brought them 66.41 points (technical score: 31.27). The athletes did a great interpretation and a very creative performance in China. The coach Anu Oksanen told to the Finnish federation that she was satisfied with the program: «Today, some of the technical levels were missed, so we’ll need more precision tomorrow in the free program.»
The good surprise of the day is for Les Suprêmes who presented their «Samba» short program in original dresses. Even if their performance had some littles hesitations especially in the No Hold block, the Canadian impressed the audience with their energy and choreography. They placed 3rd with a total of 64.33 points.
This was also the first competition for Haydenettes from Lexington (USA) and Team Surprise representing Sweden. Their short programs were a very close race because only 0.21 points separate the two teams. Dressed in shiny red dresses, Team Surprise earned 62.96 points. The American skated to «Run Boy Run» by Woodkid and did 62.75 points. The free skate will be thrilling!
The teams will have now a few hours to rest and practice before the free programs on Saturday.
