Ten days ago, the city of Eindhoven in the Netherlands hosted the Lumière Cup. The event was labeled as ISU competition for the first time. We asked 5 questions to the Chair of the organizing committee, Ellie van Soest.

How was the competition? ?
Ellie van Soest: It was a great competition, everything went well. We had great and enthusiastic teams, officials, audience and of course volunteers. Without all of these stakeholders, there is no competition. Next year, we have to improve our warm-up areas.

A favorite program?
I had two; first was the Addams family of our own basic novice team; the girls surprised me with their fantastic interpretation of the theme. And second was the FP of Les Supremes senior. Beautiful program and fantastic skating. New tricks and some classic skating too. For me personally; a great combination.

According to you, how is Lumiere Cup developing?
At first, we organized two times as an interclub competition, which was great and fun to do. After those two times, we felt like we were ready to try and get the ISU label. Of course, the label makes that there are new organizational matters to deal with. We feel that we succeeded in putting down a well-organized competition where teams from all levels can compete and have fun in competing.

What are your goals for next seasons?
We already have some ideas to improve the organization for next year. The goal for next season is to get more teams ISU as well as interclub. It would be great to expand to 3 days competition. We hope for the future that teams see Lumière Cup as a solid competition in the early season where they can get good feedback on their new programs.

How is synchro developing in the Netherlands?
In the matter of the number of teams, there is not much development. We still have 6 teams at Kids on Ice, 3 teams at BKV and 1 team at SKY.
All teams are in the south of the Netherlands. But I feel we sure are improving the level of the teams; for sure in the Junior and Senior ISU category. We would love to see more teams in our country. But in fact, it is hard to start a team when you have never done anything with synchro. We hope that with the event Lumière Cup we will make a contribution to make more skaters and of course clubs and coaches enthusiastic to start with this beautiful sport.
