Reigning Canadian Champions Nexxice took the Senior’s Short Program at Winterfest on Friday in Brampton, ON (CAN). Nexxice stands also in first place in the Junior division after the first competition day.

Over 100 teams across Canada and the USA are competing for titles in ten different events this weekend in Brampton, Ontario. Winterfest is also the qualifier for the 2019 ISU World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships that will take place in Neuchâtel, Switzerland in March. Two Canadian teams will get their ticket for this major competition.

The first day of competition began with the Pre-Novice division. Tavistock Team Unity skated two clean programs earning a total of 61.77 points. They won the competition. Juvenile teams also presented their program. Nexxice from Burlington got the title with 51.60 points.

Intermediate (16 participating teams) and Novice (11 teams) also competed on Friday. For the moment, Nexxice, Les Rythmiks, and Les Pirouettes are dominating the Intermediate division, and Nova, Gold Ice, and Nexxice are provisionally on the Novice podium. This is the result after the first program. The second performance on Saturday could still change the medallists.

On Friday, Nexxice dominated the Senior field. The team won the Short Program competition with a total of 82.82 points. Team Nova, the 2018 Canadian Bronze Medallists, showed great improvement and earned 57.07 points.

A tight race started in the Junior division. After the Short Programs, Nexxice leads the competition by 2 points more (75.94). Les Suprêmes ended in second with 73.84 points. It’s gonna be harder for Nova to qualify for the Junior Worlds as they finished provisionally with 60.22 points. But we know that in synchro anything is possible. Gold Ice, Team Delaware, Hockettes and Ilderton are also competing in this division.

The competition continues on Saturday and Sunday with the Free Programs events and other categories.
