Skyliners take the lead in both junior and senior after the first day of the Dr. Richard Porter Classic

The first day of the Dr. Richard Porter Synchronized Skating Classic, the last U.S. competition of the year, kicked off on Friday evening. The competition started with the junior and senior short events at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Junior ISU event
Eleven teams from across the country battled it out on Friday evening.

Skyliners landed in first ahead of Teams Elite by less than three points. Teams Elite’s short program to an epic cover of “Aint No Sunshine” put them almost nine points ahead of Starlights. Team Image finished in fourth place, less than half a point behind Starlights. Hockettes finished in fifth place, less than a point above DC EDGE.



Senior competition
Skyliners led the senior short event with a score of 71.16, more than six points above Miami University of Ohio. Miami University of Ohio earned a season’s best of 64.74, showcasing their power and elegance by skating to “Amazing Grace.” Crystallettes finished in third, more than eight points above Adrian College Varsity SST
