The Quebec teams Les Suprêmes (CAN) have just landed in France for the French Cup this weekend! Between two visits to the Eiffel Tower, the coach Marilyn Langlois looks back on the very good start of the season for her teams. In fact, in addition to the qualification for the Junior Worlds, the two teams in Montreal both won gold at Winterfest, a really important event in the synchro calendar!

Your two teams, Les Suprêmes Juniors and Seniors won the gold medal at Winterfest two weeks ago. Two wins victories in the best ISU categories, what are your feelings?
Marilyn Langlois: It is very satisfying to see our teams making four great performances and as a bonus win the gold medal. Our skaters have delivered four good programs at Winterfest and reached good levels.

Both the Junior and Senior teams seem to be at their best. Have you changed anything in the preparation of your athletes? Each year we question ourselves to see how we can improve our recipe and I believe that we have better communication. It helps us to develop better planning together and thus improve consistency in training.

Have you had many new skaters this season in these teams?
At the Junior, we kept about 2/3 of our team and at the Senior, sixteen of our twenty athletes decided to continue the adventure for the 2019-2020 season.

According to you, what makes the force, or even the particularity, of Les Suprêmes?
Our love for the sport and for our athletes. The balance between work and pleasure is also important to us. I also believe that the skaters show that on the ice when they compete. They have a lot of fun training and performing.

With the Junior team, you created a free program to the Matrix universe. What inspired you?
The team at the base is our source of inspiration. By their skating quality, we wanted to be able to express a more mature side and develop their power. Basically, it is also a fiction that is current today with technological developments. The Matrix is a universe rich in creativity.

What are the strengths of the Junior short program?
The Madonna! It's a choreography that has a real personality and is very musical. With the music editing, we wanted to look for a classic and revisited it with a touch of renewal that allows girls to demonstrate their strength as well as their femininity at the same time.

Now qualified for the Worlds in Nottingham, what have you focused on in recent weeks with the Juniors?
We continued to work on the consistency of certain technical elements while pushing the level of interpretation.

For Seniors, the next big deadline will be the Canadian Championships in just a month. How do you maintain your athletes at the highest level?
The motivation, at the moment, is at its best. We are going to refine certain technical elements and go to a higher artistic level to ensure that our spectators live a memorable experience with us.

With three top teams in Canada, the Senior competition will be tough. What do you think will make the difference?
Preparation will be key! This is what will lead them to perform optimally.

You will be with your junior and senior teams this weekend in France. More generally what are your goals this season?
We hope that each team continues to progress both nationally and internationally and that they can present top-level performances.

In which competitions will the public be able to see you?
After the French Cup this weekend, the next deadline will be the Canadian national championships in Calgary. Then the Juniors will be in Nottingham, for the World Junior Championships, and according to the qualification for the Worlds, we would obviously wish to represent our country at the Senior World Championships which will take place in April in Lake Placid.
