In October 2018, Team Surprise announced its retirement. The end of this iconic team had been a thunderclap in the synchro world. Indeed, the multiple Swedish champions had been crowned world champions six times since the start of the Worlds in 2000.

Even today, no team has been able to dethrone the famous Team Surprise, which holds the record for world championship gold medals. Six titles between 2000 and 2012.

Finland sweeps up the most medals
Looking at the countries as a whole, it's Finland that has collected the most gold titles. Nine gold medals between 2002 and 2018. Marigold IceUnity has 5, the Helsinki Rockettes 3 and Team Unique one.

Canada comes 3rd with four gold medals in total. Two for Nexxice in 2009 and 2015 and Les Suprêmes also two, in 2022 and 2023.

Russia currently has three gold medals to its credit, won by Team Paradise between 2016 and 2019.

With one silver and five bronze medals, the USA completes the top 5. When will an American gold medal come along?
