After Nottingham (GBR) in 2020 and Angers (FRA) in 2021, the world's best synchro teams will compete in Austria.

The city of Innsbruck, capital of Tyrol and the fifth-largest city in Austria, has been chosen by the International Skating Union (ISU) to host the event from March 17 to 19.

"We are very happy and honored to have been chosen to host the ISU World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships 2022," Theresa Katzlinger reacted. She's working together with Carmen Kiefer in the Organizing Committee.

Olympiaworld, an arena with 10,000 seats
Innsbruck has been the host of the Olympics in 1964 and 1976, and of the Youth Olympic Games in 2012. The city is often called the „Heart of the alps“ as it lies within the mountains and it has hosted many international sport competitions.

"In 2004, the Olympiaworld got reopened after a big reconstruction, 2005 the World Hockey Championships were taking place as the first big event. Olympiaworld consists of 2 indoor icerinks (the bigger arena has 10.000 seats, the smaller arena has 3.400 seats and is used by the hockey team as their home arena), there is also an outdoor speed skating rink and other big sports facilities – Tivoli Football Stadium, a swimming pool and 3 big gyms," explains Theresa Katzlinger.

The Olympiaworld is also used to host figure skating events. There was, for example, an ISU Junior Grand Prix in 2011.

"To convince the ISU"
"We applied for the Senior Worlds but were not chosen, so we’ve been asked if we could imagine Junior Worlds instead," explains Theresa Katzlinger. "We are still working on that and hope that we will be able to give a good testimony with Junior Worlds to convince the ISU to also consider Austria for Senior Worlds in the future," she adds.

Will Austria have a Junior team?

"Yes, we really hope, that we will have a Junior team in 2022, one team is currently working on it for the next season 2021, but at the moment it is hard to tell how things will proceed in the whole Covid-19 situation."

Senior Worlds could be back in Canada in 2022!
The ISU also made a provisional allotment for the ISU World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships 2022. The competition could take place in Hamilton (CAN) from April 7 to 9, 2022.

The Senior World Championships had already taken place in Hamilton, Ontario, in 2015. The local team Nexxice Senior won the gold medal!
