Only 4 days left before the French Cup 2020! The famous synchronized skating competition is about to welcome 28 synchro teams in the North of France. Divided into three ISU categories and coming from twelve different countries, the event organized by the French Federation (Fédération Française des Sports de Glace), the Normandy League (Ligue de Normandie des Sports de Glace) and the Rouen Olympic Club promises to be really exciting!

The icerink of Île Lacroix in Rouen will be boiling over this weekend during the French Cup, the third stage of the Synchronized Skating Challenger Series.

The three teams that won a medal at the last Senior Worlds will be in Rouen
Eleven teams will compete for the title in the Senior category. And big names are indeed expected!

The current World Champions, Team Paradise who trains in Saint Petersburg in Russia and who just won the Leon Lurje Trophy in Sweden will be in France. The team led by Irina Yakovleva will skate its tango on Friday, and their new free program to the music of "Bolero" by Maurice Ravel on Saturday.

In the same category, the Finnish teams will also want to fight for the gold. The Helsinki Rockettes and Marigold IceUnity, both silver and bronze medalists at the last World Championships, will be skating this weekend. A victory would allow them to gain confidence before their National Championships which will take place in Finland in one month.

One high-flying Canadian team will also compete in Rouen this weekend. Les Suprêmes, from the Montreal region, have not said their last word and may well also create a good surprise.

But that will be without counting on the American teams. This year, the Haydenettes (national champions) and Miami University Senior are preparing to dazzle the audience with programs filled with emotion and technically very difficult.

Several other nations will also be represented in the Seniors. Nova from Australia, United Angels for Germany, Fusion representing Spain, team Icicles Senior who will skate under the colors of Great Britain, as well as the famous Zoulous, from Lyon, who will be the only French team in the division.

An exciting competition awaited in the Junior division
Among the Juniors, fourteen teams will be skating in Rouen.

As the host country, France will have the most participating teams with three entries: Team Jeanne d'Arc from Rouen, Chrysalides from Valenciennes and Zazous from Lyon.

Designated as "Team of France" since last season, Team Jeanne d'Arc, the local team, will have some pressure on the shoulders. Indeed, the JDA as it is commonly called will play this weekend its qualification for the World Junior Championships in Nottingham which will take place in March.

The 19 skaters in the team train every morning from 6:30 am to 8 on the ice and have physical and mental preparation, dance and theater classes, alongside morning practice on the ice. Coached by Anne-Sophie Duret-Avisse, Clara Levieux, and Christelle Peltier, the JDA Team has shown a very good improvement in recent years and intends to present this weekend the fruit of its work in its home arena.

However, the competition will be fierce in this category since it will bring together some of the best teams in the world.

Team Junost, Junior World Champion, will also be particularly expected. Indeed, the Russian team was crowned National Champion two weeks ago with more than… 216 points! Enough to make even the best Senior teams blush.

Canada will have two Junior teams: Les Suprêmes and Nexxice, who finished 1st and 2nd respectively at Winterfest, one of the biggest events in North America. The United States will also present two teams, the famous Skyliners from New York and Teams Elite from Illinois.

On the Finnish side, there is no doubt that the Musketeers (the little sisters of the Marigold IceUnity) and the Dream Edges team, 2019 National Champion, will prove to be serious competitors in this event. Team Convivium of Sweden will also represent the North of Europe.

Closer to France, the Illuminettes Team (Netherlands), Shining Blades (Italy) or the Icicles Juniors (Great Britain) will also be competing in Rouen.

In the Novice Advanced category, three teams are announced.

These are Finettes and Starlights, both from Finland, as well as Ice Dreams who will skate for Great Britain.
The competitions will take place Friday and Saturday in Rouen.
