"We stayed in our own bubble": Team Unique’s silver triumph at home

Skating in front of a packed Helsinki crowd, Team Unique delivered a powerful free program to claim the silver medal at the 2025 ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships. It was an emotional high point in a season full of challenges, crowned by the best free skate of the competition.

Team Unique’s silver medal on home ice was much more than a podium finish — it was the culmination of a season built on resilience. With a final score securing the world second place, the Helsinki-based team made a powerful statement by delivering the highest-scoring free program of the event. “Together with the small gold medal from our free program, it felt like the hard work of the season had paid off,” they reflected. “What a great way to end the season!”
Skating at home brought not just familiarity, but pressure. Yet, the team leaned into their environment. “We wanted to think that the home ice and crowd would work to our advantage… the crowd was full of people who wanted the best for us,” they said.

“We had trained with a self-made recording of the crowd noise”
To stay focused amid the roaring Finnish support, they had prepared in an unusual way. “We had trained with a self-made recording of the crowd noise,” they revealed.
“During the skate, we stayed focused by being in our own bubble… you could hear skaters talking to each other during the program: ‘Remember,’ ‘Concentrate,’ ‘Good.’”

Stepping onto the podium was a moment of deep pride. “It was the first time we truly had the chance to look at the whole crowd and enjoy every last bit of this once-in-a-lifetime experience,” they said.
Their highlight? “The moment after we finished our free skate—being incredibly proud that we had a clean and powerful performance… and feeling the crowd go wild.”

This silver medal joins an already decorated history for Team Unique, including bronze in 2023 and world gold in 2013. But this one, earned after mid-season setbacks, carried a special meaning. “We’re proud that we didn’t let the setbacks shake our confidence… we embraced every lesson and weren’t afraid to change our routines.”
Now, the team is already back on the ice. “After a deserved week off, it was time to return to training. Our new team is eager to get started!”
