Finnish teams wow the fans during short programs

The long-awaited synchronized skating season started on a sunny Saturday in Tampere, Finland. The competition was organized according to strict safety guidelines because of the Covid-19. The arrangements for the first day went well, and both the teams and the audience were happy. Helsinki Rockettes and Team Fintastic are leading the first qualifications.

Seniors
Helsinki Rockettes (HTK) started the senior competition and won the short program event with a total score of 73.10 points. Their program “Loneliness” was skated with softness and emotion.

In second place came Team Unique (HSK). They earned 70.91 points with their powerful short program “NOW”. It differed entirely from the other programs highlighting the importance of demonstrations in favor of important goals like freedom.

Marigold IceUnity (HL) presented for the first time their wonderful and emotional short program “Nordic Spirit”. Their glacier green costumes fit the theme well. They had some technical shortcomings, and they came third with a total score of 68.59 points.

The teams are once again very even, so the final results cannot yet be predicted. Note that team Lumineers is not participating in these first qualifications this weekend due to a case of Covid in the team recently.

Juniors
In the Junior competition, the top three stood out clearly in the scores.

Team Fintastic (HTK) had a joyful show called “La Cage aux Folles” and, with it and, with a score of 65.86 points, is leading the competition.

Dream Edges from Kaarina is not very far behind. They gathered 65.17 points skating the theme “Rubik's cube” to the beat of Hungarian music.

Valley Bay Synchro (ESJT) from Espoo got a total score of 63.90 and third place with their interesting program “Virtual Reality”.

Dressed in black and white costumes, Team Mystique (HSK) finished 4th after its new and energetic short program "Rythm Inside" - an original song of Loïc Nottet.

The most positive surprise of the day was Team Estreija (LTL) from Lahti. They got 46.66 points and got fifth place. This might be the best result of the team in their whole history.

Dressed in gray, the skaters from Stella Polaris are currently sixth, FireBlades who skated their "Wild jungle" program are currently in 7th place, Musketeers struggled in their short program on "Beetlejuice" and finished 8th.

Ice Infinity skated her short program "Utopia" and is 9th, just behind is Ice Steps who featured "Hela - Goddess of Death" in green suits, Sun City Swing put some color on the ice with her program " Magicae "(11th), Reflections skated a very moving program in dark blue dresses and Festa Aboensia presented their new short program" Influencers).

Advanced Novices
The Advanced Novices were the first to be on the ice. The teams are divided into two blocks, and they compete on different days. The winner of the first day and block was Team Finettes (HTK) from Helsinki. They skated a powerful program “10 000 years before Christ” in black dresses and earned 86.20 points. 

With a total score of 80.70 points, the silver medalist was Starlights (HL) also from Helsinki. They had a good technique and vivid performance of the theme “Wolf Princess Mononoke”. 

Diamond Edges from Kaarina grabbed third place. In orange-black dresses, they resembled lottery balls, and their theme was “Seven right”. They got 74.81 points.

Eight teams took part in the Advanced Novices competition on Saturday and the level seems to be rising every year.

In gray and white dresses, Blue Arrows finished 4th, Novettes sparkled in orange suits and took 5th place. Dream Steps , Blue Diamonds and Ice Energy completed the novice standings.

The first national qualifications in Finland continue on Sunday. The opportunity for fans to discover the free programs of the senior and junior teams, as well as the other Novice Advanced teams who will start the first in the middle of the afternoon.
