Saturday was an intense day of competition at the Olivia Ice Rink in Gdansk, Poland, where the international Hevelius Cup was held this weekend.

The event was exciting in the Junior division. Fourteen teams from Europe and North America skated, and the standings changed from one day to the next.

Junior ISU: medal sweep for Canada
Leading after the short program, the talented Northernettes from Minneapolis (USA) presented a very strong free program. Nevertheless, Alana Christie's team had to count with a fall on Saturday night during the free program in the second intersection and finished 4th in the end.

The three Canadian teams finished on the podium:

- Nexxice Junior in the first place: despite some difficulties in the 1st intersection, the Burlington (Ontario) team delivered an emotional free program without any major mistakes, finishing with a lead of almost ten points!

- Ice Ignite: the surprise of the evening! 5th after the short program, the Ilderton (Ontario) team moved up from fifth to the silver medal with 164.14 points, while Nova from St-Hubert (Quebec) remained third with 164.12 points, with a fall in the No Hold Block Element.
After the Canadian teams, the two American teams were next in the standings, followed by Finland and the host country, Poland, with the Ice Fire team.

The Junior event allowed many teams to showcase their skills in an intense competition. Team Amber Junior did not skate the free program on Saturday.

Senior ISU: A great battle for bronze
Six senior teams were competing, and the ranking remained almost unchanged between the short program and the free. Marigold IceUnity (FIN) logically won the competition with a large lead.

Adrian College team (USA) achieved its best free program score ever (128.93) and finished 2nd. Ice Fire Senior from Poland made a comeback on the podium with a good free program, leaving Team Darlings (CZE) in 4th place in the end.

In Novice Advanced, the competition was dominated mainly by Finland, which finished on all the podium steps.

The Hevelius Cup 2023 continues on Sunday with the Interclub competitions.
