Hevelius Cup: Finnish teams dominated the short programs

The fourth Hevelius Cup is arranged on 18th -19th of January in Gdansk, Poland. There are three ISU and six Interclub categories participating this competition. On Saturday, Interclub teams of Junior B, Pre-Juvenile, Juvenile, and Adult categories took the ice. ISU Junior and ISU Senior teams performed their short programs.

Team Unique leads the Senior category

TeamrnUnique from Finlandrnwas the unbeatable winner of the Senior´s short program. They executed arnflawless and precise performance gathering a total score of 79.77. It is therntop result of this season in Finland. The judges gave them even one 10 for therncomposition. Especially their pivoting block was highly valued when they got 5rnfives from the panel.

The second was Helsinki Rockettes from Finlandrnearning points 69.13. They had two very unfortunate falls in the Intersectionrnand it ruined the whole element. Anyway, they had great speed and their TravelingrnCircle succeeded very well.

Third place belonged to Skating Graces from Germany. They had arnvery well-balanced program and the panel gave them 45.90 points. Their wine-colored dresses captured the attention andrnfitted well to the music.

Eight Senior teams competed in this division.

Finland rules the Juniors

TeamrnMystique from Finlandrntook the lead in this short competition. They got a plain lead reaching thernscore 63.16 even if they had a fall in the Move Element. Their lively Africanrntheme, great speed and colorful costumes excited the audience.

In the second place in the short was Ice Steps from Finland. They got 50.95rnpoints. Their “Twilight Zone” program was a flawless performance and they conveyedrnthe atmosphere of their theme very well.

Reflectionrnis also from Finland. They reached a score of 45.95rnand got third place. There were no big mistakes and the “Princess Jasmine”rntheme from Disney movie “Aladdin” was very entertaining.

Finland really ruled this competition, alsornthe fourth place went to Finnish team Ice Infinity with scores 38.03. They hadrna bad fall in Intersection and one skater injured her arm but bravely executed the program to the end.

The Junior division also gathered eight teams.

Four interclub categories competed on Saturday

There was only one team in the Junior Brncategory. Adelaide Ice Magic Juniorrnfrom Australia gathered 22.61 points and of course, the first place.

In thernPre-Juvenile category, there were four cute teams, three from Poland and onernfrom Netherland. The winner was Ice Fire Pre-Juvenile from Poland with scores 23.72.  LernSoleil Pre-Juvenile also from Polandrnfinished second and got a total score of 18.82. Team Illumiloops fromrnNetherland took the bronze with 17.25 and the fourth was Amber Ice Two fromrnPoland gathering a total score of 11.65.

The number of teams idicates the rise of the sport in Poland

The winner of the Juvenile category was LernSoleil Juvenile from Poland.rnThey gathered a total score of 29.62. GoldenrnDiamonds from Finland got thernsilver medal with 28.54 points and Polish Ice Fire Juvenile claimed the bronze,rnthey got 23.48 points. There were seven teams competing in this category.

Adult teams ended the evening. The winner was Adelaide Ice Magic Adult fromrnAustralia with points 36.67. All the tree Polish teams placed far behind it. Ice Fire Adult A got the silver medalrnand a total score of 18.87. Le SoleilrnAdult took the bronze and 18.70 points the fourth was Ice Fire Adult B. They got 15.13rnpoints.

The competition continues on Sunday with the Advanced Novice, and of course the free programs of the Junior and Senior teams.
