Synchro9 continues to grow with a first development camp in Asia!

Synchronized skating continues to expand internationally! From July 20 to 24, 2026, Bangkok, Thailand, hosted the first Synchro9 Development Camp organized through the International Skating Union's (ISU) development program. The initiative aimed to introduce young athletes, coaches and officials to the new competition format.

Organized by the Figure and Speed Skating Association of Thailand in collaboration with ISU Development, the camp took place at the IWIS International Training Center in Bangkok.

According to the ISU, 63 participants representing 18 teams from eight ISU Member federations attended the camp. Participants came from several countries and territories, including China, Japan, India, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand.

Interest in the program exceeded the number of available places. The ISU reported that 28 teams had applied for just 18 spots.

Famous synchro coaches

On the ice, participants worked with five coaches, including Marilyn Langlois of Canada's Les Suprêmes and Andrea Gilardi of Italy's Hot Shivers. Four demonstration skaters from Canada and Italy also took part in the training sessions.

This first Synchro9 Development Camp reflects the ISU's objective of making synchronized skating more accessible to additional federations. With nine skaters per team, the new format is designed to reduce some of the barriers faced by countries with more limited resources.
