The first national qualifiers take place this weekend in Finland. In the Senior division, Team Unique finished in the top spot after the short programs. Valley Bay Synchro leads in the Junior category.
In the most important competition of the Finnish synchronized skating season, Team Unique succeeded on Sunday. With their positive program “The Unbearable Lightness of Being”, they secured the gold medal and qualified Team Finland 1 in the Senior World Championships in Lake Placid next April.
The Leon Lurje Trophy ended on Saturday evening in Sweden. The Helsinki Rockettes added a 2nd Challenger Series victory in the Senior category. Their little sisters, Team Fintastic, are the Junior champions.
The third stage of the Challenger Series, the Leon Lurje Trophy, started on Friday in Sweden. The Finnish teams are at the top of the ranking, followed by Canada and the United States.
After a very tight short program competition, the two teams, the winner Helsinki Rockettes and the silver medalist Team Unique took a clear lead in the Senior division. They both had perfect executions and no errors. In Junior competition, Musketeers had the best success. It was enough for the second position whereas Team Fintastic won the gold medal.
This weekend is the start of the first national qualifiers for the Advanced Novice, Junior and Senior teams in Finland. Here is what happened on the first day.
In the midst of a snowstorm over the weekend in Finland, Team Fintastic kept their goal clear and won the Finnish qualification for the World Junior Synchronized Skating Championship which will be on 17-19 March 2022 in Innsbruck, Austria. Musketeers will be the second team selected.
The top five Finnish teams are competing for the World Championships this weekend. Teams skated their short programs on Saturday in Espoo Metro Arena without audience, as usual this season.
Team Crystal Ice Junior won the first stage of the Challenger Series in Poland on Friday night, exceeding 200 points! The competition has also started for the Seniors: Team Tatarstan is in the lead, followed by Crystal Ice Senior and Dream Edges from Finland.
Thursday evening in Poland, Crystal Ice from Russia finished first in the junior short programs competition. The Finnish team Valley Bay Synchro is, for the moment, 2nd and Teams Elite Junior (USA) 3rd.
The competition was tough on Sunday night. The three gold medal teams finally came from the same club - Helsingin Taitoluisteluklubi - with the victories of the Helsinki Rockettes, Team Fintastic and Finettes.
The second qualification competition of Finnish synchro teams is taking place this weekend in Espoo. On Saturday, Seniors and Juniors competed with their short programs. Team Unique in Seniors and Team Fintastic in Juniors are leading the competition after the first day. The differences between the points of the top teams are small, so the free program competition will be fascinating.
